Presentation - Klamath Lake Wetland Mitigation Project

  • March 03, 2025
  • 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
  • Klamath County Museum

Kathy Sale, retired US Forest Service natural resource specialist, will present information on the wetland mitigation project that began on the east side of the lake in the fall of 2021. The project is west of Highway 97, near milepost 271, about seven miles north of Klamath Falls. The mitigation is intended to replace wetlands and water resources impacted by the ongoing Highway 140 project on the southwest side of Upper Klamath Lake.

The site consists of 45 acres, with wetland conditions present on 20 acres and approximately 23.7 acres subject to restoration. Kathy’s presentation will identify the parties involved, processes used to manage weeds, and efforts to landscape and revegetate the site.

Some of the species used in the project include small camas (Camassia quamash), showy milkweed (Asclepias speciosa), wocus (Nuphar lutea ssp. polysepala), Klamath plum (Prunus subcordata), Bitter cherry (Prunus emarginata), and Rocky Mountain iris (Iris missouriensis).
