On Saturday June 23 the Klamath Basin Chapter of the Native Plant Society will host a wildflower walk at Pelican Guard Station/Pelican Barn located just west of the community of Rocky Point.  The walk will begin at 9 and end about noon.

To get there from Klamath Falls, take Hwy 140 west to the Westside Road about ½ mile past the Rocky Point Junction.  Take the Westside Road north about 0.2 miles and turn right through the open gate to the Pelican Guard Station parking area.  If you would like to carpool from Klamath Falls, meet at the Klamath County Museum at 8 am.

This area of the Fremont-Winema National Forest has a complex of forested habitats and meadows with many species of wildflowers, including meadow arnica, arrowhead, cinquefoil, and wild geranium.  Pelican Barn is also a collection site for the Oregon Bee Atlas Project, and native bees will be discussed during the walk.  Plan on a moderate to easy off road hike of less than 2 miles on flat ground.  Mosquitoes have not been bad this year, but you may want to be prepared, just in case.
